TENGA Explained: Product Lines, Single-Use vs Reusable, and How to Choose

TENGA is a Japanese company that designs male masturbation products with a clean, almost gadget-like look. Its catalog has grown from one disposable cup into dozens of items, and the names (CUP, EGG, SPINNER, FLIP, PUFFY, GEO, AIR-TECH) can be confusing at first. This guide sorts the main lines by how they work, what they cost on the official store, and how much care each one needs. Everything here comes from TENGA's own product pages and manuals, plus medical sources for the hygiene advice.

Who makes TENGA?

TENGA Co., Ltd. was established on March 25, 2005, and is headquartered in Tokyo. It runs a US subsidiary in California and offices in Europe and Asia (TENGA corporate profile). The company describes its business as the design, manufacture, and sale of "functional, hygienic sexual wellness items." The same company also makes iroha, a separate brand designed for women, which we cover in its own guide.

In practice, TENGA's main selling points are consistent manufacturing, discreet packaging, and clear care instructions. Its official US store says orders ship in plain brown packaging.

The two big categories: single-use and reusable

Every TENGA product falls into one of two groups, and this is the first decision to make.

A single-use item is a low-cost way to find out whether you like this kind of product at all. A reusable item makes sense once you know you will use it regularly and are willing to spend a few minutes on cleaning.

Single-use lines in more detail

CUP series. The ORIGINAL VACUUM CUP is TENGA's original signature product. It comes pre-lubricated, and the rigid outer cup creates a suction feeling. Variants include Premium versions with thicker material and Gentle, Strong, Extra Gentle, and Extra Strong versions. TENGA also sells optional powered attachments, such as the VACUUM GYRO ROLLER, that fit the ORIGINAL VACUUM CUP.

EGG series. Each EGG is a small, highly stretchable sleeve with a different internal texture, plus a small sachet of lube. TENGA lists more than 20 textures, grouped into Regular and Strong strength.

POCKET TENGA. The cheapest and most compact line. It is a thin sleeve made of thermoplastic elastomer (TPE) that, according to TENGA, "stretches to fit almost any size." The sealable pouch is designed for discreet disposal, which makes it practical for travel.

Reusable lines in more detail

SPINNER. A coil inside the sleeve makes it rotate as you stroke. TENGA's care instructions warn that turning a SPINNER fully inside out will damage the internal coil. The case doubles as a drying stand.

FLIP ZERO. The inner sleeve is TPE inside a hard polycarbonate case. The case opens fully, so you can rinse every surface and let it air-dry. TENGA's Thai distributor FAQ lists an insertion depth of about 16 cm (6.3 in) and width of about 5 cm (2 in), with a hard, non-stretch case. Pressure pads on both sides let you adjust suction.

PUFFY. TENGA describes it as "soft elastomer, with a marshmallowy interior and a silky-smooth silicone exterior." You control the pressure by squeezing the soft case. The cap doubles as a drying stand.

GEO. The textured surface sits on the outside for display and cleaning. You turn it inside out before use, then reverse it again to wash and dry.

How to choose: the specs that matter

Lube: what TENGA recommends

TENGA's included lotions are water-based. The ingredient list for TENGA Lotion Regular starts with water and glycerin. The AIR-TECH user manual says to "use only water-based lotions with this product," and the FLIP ZERO product page says to use TENGA Lotion "or water based lubricant." The FLIP ZERO FAQ on TENGA's Thai distributor site says the TPE sleeve "should be compatible with other water-based lubricants," but that TENGA cannot be held responsible for damage from third-party lubricants. In short: stick with water-based lube unless the product page says otherwise.

Independent medical guidance agrees on the principle. A 2025 review in Canadian Family Physician notes that water-based lubricants are compatible with all materials commonly used in the genital area, while oil- and silicone-based products are not compatible with certain materials (Vanderschee and Kostov, 2025). If your skin is sensitive, note that TENGA Lotion contains glycerin and methylparaben; the same review lists these among ingredients that people with frequent irritation may want to avoid. Our lube guide covers this in more detail.

Washing, drying, storing, and replacing reusable items

The AIR-TECH manual and TENGA's product pages give the same basic routine:

  1. Wash right after use with cold or tepid water. Use mild soap if needed.
  2. Make sure no lube or other fluid remains inside.
  3. Pat dry with a clean towel, then let it air-dry completely in a well-ventilated place.
  4. Store it only when fully dry, in a cool, dry place out of direct sunlight.

The AIR-TECH manual warns against cleaning with alcohol, harsh acidic or alkaline cleaners, or solvents such as benzine or paint thinner. TENGA Japan's care pages also warn against hot water (above about 50°C / 122°F) and long soaking, which can deform the material.

TENGA's manuals say not to share products and not to use them on damaged or irritated skin. If you feel pain or irritation, stop and wash the area. If redness, swelling, or pain lasts more than a day or two, or you notice sores or discharge, see a doctor or urologist. This guide is general information and does not replace medical advice.

When to replace a reusable item.

TENGA notes that how long a reusable product lasts depends on how it is used, which lube you use, and how it is cleaned and stored. Replace it if you see tears or cracks, stains or spots that do not wash out, a smell that stays after washing and drying, or a sticky or oily surface. Damaged surfaces are harder to clean and can hold bacteria. For single-use items, the rule is simple: use once and throw away.

A sensible first purchase

If you have never used a TENGA product, a low-risk path is to try one or two single-use items first, such as an ORIGINAL VACUUM CUP or an EGG, in Regular strength. If you find you like the experience and plan to keep using it, move to a reusable item that is easy to clean, such as a SPINNER or FLIP ZERO, and buy a water-based lube at the same time. You can browse the full lineup on TENGA's official US store.
